Okotoks United Soccer Club is proud to congratulate Rylan Simser on an exciting opportunity to continue his football development overseas this fall.

Rylan, a long standing OUSC player on OUSC Anthem B09, has been accepted into the Inspire Development Academy (IDA) in Sheffield, England, where he will spend four months full-time training alongside studies at the University of Sheffield before returning home at Christmas to complete Grade 12 at Foothills Composite High School.

The academy provides a full-time professional-standard soccer environment, giving Rylan the opportunity to continue to develop with a full-time training schedule alongside weekly matches to give him a glimpse into life at the next level.

"I am very excited about this once in a lifetime opportunity that I worked very hard to achieve!" said Rylan.

After spending several months exploring pathways to the next level, Rylan spoke with academies across multiple countries before deciding that IDA was the right fit.

"After speaking with multiple academies and locations (throughout a few countries), I felt that the IDA staff had a great focus on the players and the overall football side was very organised."

During his time in England, Rylan's primary goals are to continue developing his football IQ, compete at a higher level, and gain insight into the daily life of a professional footballer. Away from the pitch, he is looking forward to building independence while living overseas.

"I want to improve my football IQ and play at a higher level. Also to see what a professional life would be like. Off the pitch, I want to learn to be independent!"

While leaving home for four months will be his biggest challenge, Rylan is eager to embrace the experience.

"The biggest challenge will be learning to live without any of my family. I'm most excited about playing football every day and meeting people from all around the world."

As he prepares for this next chapter, Rylan is quick to recognize the people who have helped him along the way.

"I would like to thank my mom and dad. And all my coaches, especially my club coach (Kristie Emms) and my high school coach (Jackie Heuver). And all my teammates that pushed me to improve."

Before departing for England, Rylan also shared a message with the OUSC community that has supported his journey.

"Thank you for all these great years at OUSC and make sure to keep trying even when the going gets tough."
